Hoy todo México sabe quién es Guillermo Pérez Sandoval, pero hace un par de días pocos lo sabían. Una verdadera historia de desprecio, falta de apoyo y hasta humillación. Hoy este joven calla la boca de la élite deportiva mexicana. Incluido, por supuesto, Carlos Hermosillo.
Guillermo Pérez Sandoval representó a México en la categoría de menos de 58 kilogramos en Taekwondo.
Y ganó.
Hoy gracias a ello conocemos su historia, gracias a ese logro personal (permítame recalcarlo) hoy podemos conocer de primera mano los abusos, falta de apoyo y humillaciones que los deportistas que no están bajo el cobijo de la élite deportiva sufren.
Pérez es nacido en Tareta Michoacan, desde los 6 años se consagró al Taekwondo, deporte que eligió por admiracion al legendario Bruce Lee. Su primer entrenador le vio futuro y lo motivó a seguir de lleno en este deporte.
Hijo de un taxista y de una mujer emprendedora propietaria de una mercería, su amargura fue su mejor aliciente. Alguna vez dijo: “Para que alguien me pueda ganar, tiene que haber sufrido más que yo, debe tener más deseos que yo y haber entrenado más que yo…”. Y no, no hubo nadie que le ganara en el torneo olímpico.
Victima de injusticias, de desprecios. Su entrenador de alto rendimiento Reynaldo Salazar despreciaba abiertamente a Guillermo, pues él veía un obstáculo en el camino de su hijo Oscar Salazar. Recuerda Guillermo: “Haber entrenado con alguien que nunca creyó en mí como fue Reynaldo Salazar y que siempre le daba el lugar a su hijo me hacía sentir que ya tenía todo perdido…”.
Su camino por la falta de apoyo es hoy una muestra de lo que tienen que pasar los que no son “los elegidos” por los federativos y autoridades deportivas. Su madre, su principal apoyo, “siempre que he estado triste ella me ha sacado adelante. Cuando había problemas de dinero veía cómo y me pagaba los viajes; nunca se ha dado por vencida. Ese espíritu de lucha, de caerse y levantarse, lo aprendí de ella”.
Trabajando como taxista, Guillermo continuó siendo objeto de injusticias por parte de quien se supone deben apoyar a cualquier deportista. Pérez recuerda: “Ya había comenzado el ciclo olímpico para Beijing, y después de esa competencia salí triste porque Reynaldo Salazar nos dijo que ya estaba el equipo para Juegos Panamericanos y que de ahí saldrían los que irían a Olímpicos. En mi categoría el elegido era Óscar Salazar. Como sabía que estaba fuera de la mente del entrenador y de los directivos, le aposté todo al mundial para abrirme o cerrarme la puerta. Con mucho coraje y ganas de tener un buen resultado me colé hasta la final, y aunque no le gané al español Ramos, me traje la plata que me catapultó.”
