Frederick Carlton Lewis, nació el 1 de julio de 1961, en Kansas City, Estados Unidos. Ex atleta especialista en pruebas de velocidad y salto en longitud logrando ganar 10 medallas (9 de oro) en los Juegos Olímpicos entre 1984 y 1996.
Por influencia de sus padres, Lewis comenzó a competir en salto de longitud y en pruebas de velocidad a los 13 años.
A los diecinueve años, fue seleccionado para formar parte del equipo olímpico de Estados Unidos, pero el boicot de su país contra los Juegos Olímpicos de Moscú en 1980, hizo que tuviera que esperar cuatro años mas para su debut.
En los Ángeles 1984, participó en 100 metros, salto en longitud, relevos 4 x 100 metros y los 200 lisos, obteniendo cuatro medallas de oro y alcanzando de esta manera el record que había logrado Jesse Owens en los Juegos Olímpicos de Berlín en 1936.
En los juegos siguientes, Seúl 1988, Lewis se convierte en el primer atleta en ganar la competición de salto en longitud en dos Juegos Olímpicos consecutivos. También obtuvo el oro en los 100 metros lisos, pero después de que el atleta canadiense Ben Johnson fuera descalificado por dar positivo en el antidoping, por consumo de esteroides. En los 200 metros, medalla de plata.
En los Juegos Olímpicos de Barcelona 1992, ganó su tercer título en salto de longitud y volvió al oro en los 4 x 100. No compitió en los 100 metros al no clasificarse en las pruebas de su país.
Los Juegos Olímpicos de Atlanta 1996, fueron sus últimos juegos, al retirarse al término de la misma. No logró clasificarse en la prueba de velocidad y no formó parte del equipo de relevos, por una decisión polémica. Pero ganó nuevamente el oro en salto de longitud por cuarta ocasión consecutiva.
